Magnum Scorpion Boots

This is an excellent pair of boots, and one of the Magnum range that is specifically designed for military use. We found it to be hard wearing, comfortable, and good value for money, retailing at around £60.

The boot itself is very solidly constructed and showed no problems. Out of the box, they were immediately very comfortable and did not require any breaking in. The laces were strong and the boots provided ample support, with a tough sole and good ankle protection. Despite the boots not being advertised as waterproof, we found that they were resilient enough to water to remain bone dry throughout 72 hours on Sennybridge. Although they were never allowed to remain for long in any depth of water, conditions were very wet, and they coped fine with walking across waterlogged boggy ground and through the occasional shallow stream. In warmer conditions they are breathable, and can be comfortably worn with a thinner sock.

One criticism that we did have was that the boot was quite difficult to get on and off - the material supporting the ankle is quite thin and the eyelets are very tight, meaning that some pulling and tugging is necessary to properly undo them. However, this is a better alternative to poor laces and boots falling off. Still, perhaps Magnum should work on a compromise - it was a complete pain having to spend two or three minutes fiddling with the stiff laces in the dark. Not a major problem, but enough to annoy. We have heard some complaints of poor ankle support, however I didn't find this to be an issue.

Overall, a very good choice. The only possible issue is the lack of waterproofing, but this was not a major issue. Therefore, I'd give this boot a solid 4 stars.
