The Magnum Panther 8.0, a classic looking high cut boot, sporting nylon panel inserts within a predominantly leather boot. This boot’s comfort runs from top to toe with the hard wearing yet flexible sole allowing for long periods of pain free use. Added comfort comes from the padded upper which gives comfort throughout the foot and ankle. The inserted nylon allows for improved breathability; keeping feet cool and dry in hot conditions whilst also keeping the boot resistant to water and the cold.
The boots were brilliant to use, and were extremely comfortable immediately out of the box - the leather was very soft, and this may affect its durability. Used in fairly cold conditions, they were warm, and were water resistant, although definitely not waterproof. Using in the field they were very comfortable to wear, and were quite breathable, keeping sweating to a minimum, although this did occur a little over the course of a days hard walking. The boots were relatively easy to get on and off, however the laces weren't particularly strong and I doubt they would stand up to very hard usage for long. Another disadvantage, and something that shows the cheap price of the boot, is that it uses eyelets and not loops. Also, after a week of moderate to hard use a nylon to leather seam on the ankle of both boots ripped and frayed, and although showing no compromise in performance, the rip did provide an annoyance and eye sore.
They're not an ideal boots for use on drill nights, as they are very much a high leg trainer, and noticeably look like one. Also, the leather is quite difficult to polish to the same shine as an issue boot.
Overall, the boot is a good choice for casual usage, however problems with durability, its lack of waterproofing, and possibly unsuitability for drill nights means that it only gets 2 stars. The Magnum Scorpion would probably be a better choice, or ideally, a well broken in pair of issue boots.
